Born in 1983, Ali Miremadi is a UK-based visual artist and researcher whose career spans more than eighteen years in photography, visual arts, and cultural studies. He is a Licentiate Photographer (LRPS) of the Royal Society of Photography, United Kingdom & Artist of the Photography Federation (AFIAP).
His practice weaves together artistic intuition, technical precision, and academic depth, informed by a master’s degree in photography from Birkbeck, University of London. His research examines the intersection of images, identity, and history, with a particular focus on nineteenth-century Iranian photography.
A self-taught visual artist from an early age who explored various creative mediums throughout his teenage years and adolescence. His formal engagement with photography began during his teenage years at Visual Art School, when a camera first became his primary tool for observation and expression. Shaped by encounters with people, environments, and cultural narratives, he regards art as a language that transcends borders.
Over the years, his work has been featured in more than fifty festivals and exhibitions worldwide, including the solo exhibition Last Scene (2021) at Goman Visual Gallery. His artistic achievements have earned him numerous international awards, including the Award of Incentive IAAP Diploma at the International Birmensdorf Photo Contest, Switzerland (2025); First Prize at the International Shiraz Photo Festival (Iran); Gold Medals at the Asahi Shimbun Photography Awards (Japan, 2015 & 2017); the Chairman Award at the Khayyam International Photo Festival (Iran, 2017); Honourable Mention at the Bristol Photo Prize (UK, 2015); the Incentive Diploma twice at the Plovdiv Photo Festival (Bulgaria, 2014 & 2015); the Gold Medal of the Al Thani Photo Festival (Qatar, 2015); and the Social Documentary Category win at the International Lagacily Photo Award (France, 2015).
